“I wish thy way. And when in me myself should rise, and long for something otherwise, then Lord, take sword and spear and slay.” ~Amy Carmichael

“A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.” Proverbs 13:19 (NKJV)
“The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits. Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established. The Lord has made all for Himself, yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.” Proverbs 16:1-4 (NKJV)
A desire fulfilled is like candy to the soul, especially if the desire is shared by God and aligned with His will. Why wouldn’t the Father grant a desire if it is also His will for us? Did He not plant our hopes and passions within our soul?
Whether our personal desires are aligned with God’s plan for us is something every person must take to Him in prayer. The devil tries to interfere with God’s blessings and tries to shortchange us by using our flesh and personal doubts. God most likely has a bigger and better plan for our life but presently we are unable to imagine it. His thoughts are so much higher than our own. In addition, we may not be at a level of spiritual maturity wherein we can accept the measure of sacrifice and submission He requires of us to carry out His will. He needs time to transform the passions of our heart and make them His very own.
Timing is a big factor in seeing our desires met, and God’s timing is perfect. Don’t give up on a dream if it seems impossible or out of reach. Nothing is impossible for Yahweh! However, because man has the gift of free will and continually chooses rebellion and sin over submission, the heavenly Father may need time to align events and transform hearts. It takes time to mold lumps of clay into vessels of honor and gratitude.
However, never waste a minute of your life waiting for just one specific hope to become a reality. Keep on dreaming… but remember there are many promises and blessings waiting for you. Some may even have to occur before the particular one that has your attention. Let God decide on the way and the time His unfolds His plans for you.
In living for His good pleasure, however small and mundane your service may seem, you will discover joy in realizing your everyday life is slowly accomplishing God’s purpose for you. Your fulfillment will come in knowing you have been useful to the King of Kings. Not only will you find contentment, but inexpressible joy will be your constant companion. Absolute joy is found only within the presence of God and nothing in this world can compare to its absolute fulfillment.
Psalm 37:4 encourages us to find our delight in the Lord. There is a mighty harvest and reward for those who find their pleasure and delight only through Him. When a saint arrives at this stage of surrender and spiritual maturity intimacy with God waters their internal desire, and this soul desire is always for Him, yes Christ alone.
The wonderment found in the act of obedience is in the transformation power it holds. We become new creations the minute we are born again, through our spiritual rebirth. However, sanctification takes a lifetime. Believers must continually strive to be renewed. As every willful thought and personal desire is laid at the feet of Jesus, we become more and more like Him. And through our refinement, our desires aligned themselves with His perfect will. What we thought to be needs no longer exist. We grasp the secret of contentment and find peace within all situations and circumstances. Our contentment comes in trusting God’s will for us and in knowing every need will be met by a faithful and loving Father.
Fools are unable to comprehend the wisdom of asking God to manifest His desires into their own hearts. Instead, they ignore the tugs of the Holy Spirit on their heartstrings. They follow after their own yearnings, which only provide temporary pleasure, incomplete joy, and eventual damnation.
Will you permit God to stir the Holy Spirit within you today? Are you ready to seek out His perfect will for your life, even if it is contrary to your present hopes, dreams, and desires? Will you submit to any necessary change or refinement the Spirit exposes and requires, so that you may live a more serviceable and righteous witness for Christ? A major heart remodel may be necessary. The renovations could take many, many years to complete but the cathedral He creates within your very being will be magnificent. May His desire for your life be yours as well, from this very moment and throughout all of eternity. Amen.
IN QUIET REFLECTION CONSIDER GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR LIFE AND CONSIDER THE ENCOURAGEMENT WITHIN THESE SCRIPTURES.
